10/28/2006  We had our final trip of the season on Friday. Perfect weather, light tides plenty of fish. The Oyster Bay Angles lead by Ed Ireland took 60 blackfish in about two hours of red hot fishing in the sound. Most fish were in the 4-5 pound range with Fred and Mike taking fish of 7 pounds each. We switched to scup for a while and the big ones were still cooperating. Perfect day sandwiched between some seriously bad weather.

10/26/2006 We hid from the wind behind Plum Island  and picked at a few blackfish, porgies and seabass as we waited for the tide to change in Plum Gut. The group lead by Dave Horowitz and Hector Mayo then bailed the blues and bass as we  had all rods bending on every drift. Lots of action, lots of fish and lots and lots of wind

10/24/2006  On Saturday we delayed our start  in order to fish the ebb in the Gut with a favorable nw breeze. Plenty of blues and a few decent keeper bass for Burt Katz and friends. Andrew Keane had the two largest bass.

On Sunday John Caruso and friends fished the Gut on the ebb.Matt Werner's 22 pounder was the largest bass. Plenty of blues. Fished for scup during the slack . Lots of big ones still around.

10/16/2006  Tried blackfish for the first time on Sunday with the Oakdale Sportsmen Club. We had a dozen on the Connecticut side and returned to our area as the tide increased. Caught another 15 or so locally. Porgies still a bit of a bother locally. Some guys gave in and caught a bunch of them. Doug Schroeder stuck with it and had 5 nice tog.Ralph Ranghelli's 6 pounder was the largest. Anthony Pilisi had 5 nice fish too. See  photo page

A twi-light trip for the Steve Aller group saw pretty big seas out in the sound. The group battled big blues at Pigeon Rip for a while and then fished the Gut for more blues. Gusts to 40k for a brief period..Intense to say the least.

10/12/2006  Fished the Gut Friday afternoon with Joe Chingas and company. Lots of blues and smaller bass . Pretty big rip this whole weekend.
Had to cancel Saturday morning. Very nasty. Managed to fish Friday afternoon with the Holbrook F.D.  Frank Tarantino and Jason Stahl split the pool with equal sized bass.
On Sunday Pete Castro and friends concentrated on blues in the Gut and at Pigeon. Non-stop action everywhere.

The Reverand Colter and friends from Philadelphia came to Orient to try their hand at porgies.Local fishing has diminished a bit but if the conditions are right you can travel some and still find the big ones. There were many jumbos in the catch. High hook was 38 scup in around 2 1/2 half hours fishing. Could have had many more but the boys had trouble finding their way from Philly.

Tom Sadowski organized a bachelor party fishing trip for buddy P.T. Rutigiano on Monday afternoon. P.T. is about to be wed this coming weekend. Fishing the Gut on the ebb the boys took many blues and 4 keeper bass including P.T,'s pictured here. Best wishes PT.

10/1/2006  Postponed Friday's porgy trip due to high winds and rough seas.

On Saturday we fished with The Lay Reelers. The goal was to catch blues and porgies and then donate the catch to Long Island Cares for distribution to needy folks around the Island.

The ladies accounted for 55 blues in a little more than an hour in Plum Gut and then switched to scup.

The porgy bite was ON and more than 350 nice keepers were amassed along with some nice seabass. Pictured are the Ladies by the refrigerator truck that picked up the catch,Grace Licato and one of her many porgies and Charlene with one of the seabass. Great job Ladies.

When the tide was right the boys bailed large scup near Gull Island. Great fishing, great weather, great bunch of guys.

Wednesday the Triola family targeted porgies all day and maxed out with beautiful fish.

8/21/2006  The last few weeks have been pretty much carbon copies as far as itinerary goes. We target he jumbo Scup in the Gut area when tides permit and then switch to bass and blues when the tides begin to run. Some days see truly gigantic porgies taken and the next day can be spotty with mixed sizes. The bluefishing has been steady on jigs and bucktails. All  the trips are filled with action and everyone is bringing home plenty to eat.

Alure Basements, lead by Rob Viola started the day with fat and cooperative scup. They traveled east to the race in search of blues and bass and were rewarded with non stop action with blues to 10 pounds. Jim Kilhorn's 15 lb bass won the pool.
Another bachelor party fishing trip on Saturday afternoon for Jon Nowak proved to be awesome. Fishing 10 rods per drift in the race resulted in10 hookups everytime. That's a lot of fish in a few hours! Most were released. A few few keeper bass were in the mix. Good luck Jon!
On Sunday  Charlie Burst  with family and friends fished Gardiners bay for a nice catch of porgies, seabass and fluke. Everybody caught fish and had lots of fun. Weather was perfect.

Tom, Ron Casabianco and Bill Ryan all had fish in the 5 pound class. The  boys also had a few sea bass and there were many large porgies for those using clams.
I have to say that this group works very hard for their fish. They bucktail a lot, freshen their baits and are very attentive to the gentle fluke taps others might miss. Great to have them aboard.

On Saturday the Jimmy Jacobson charter tried the Gut on the flood. Mountainous rip and a tough drift made fishing tough until the ebb came through. The group battled many bass including 8 keepers and unlimited blues. All rods were bent each drift. Jim Braunsdorf and Jim Goubeaud each had 16 pound bass.

On Sunday the Environment East charter had more blues than fluke in East  Marion. 10 yr old Victoria Piechnik had the largest blue and perennial champ Joan Chambers won the fluke category again  with a 4 lb fish.

Today, tuesday, we tried Gardiners for the first time as conditions were favorable and some nice fish were taken by the J Pauls Pub group. Vinny Maisto's 7 pounder was the largest  and Ray Detwiller had one of 5 lbs. The fish were scattered and long drifts were the ticket. Lots of shorts in the area.

Took the Joe Chingas group bass fishing in the Gut on Friday. Missy Saladino's 28 lb striper was the biggest. Antoinette Spano and Amy Oliver each had fish in the 20's. There were other keepers and plenty of blues to keep all busy.
