November 9, 2008
On Saturday we fished with a few members of the
Patchogue Fishing Club. We had a few flurries during the trip but no
sustained bite, There were lots of boats at Fishers and it looks
like it's getting pretty beaten up. Gary Loock's fish was actually
taken near Plum Island
November 5, 2008
On wednesday the Bernie and Joe group
chartered the Orient Star ll for a day of blackfishing. We fished
near Race Rock and had a nice pick of fish. Nothing humungous, just
nice fat keeper sized fish. Even I had 4 fish to add to the cooler.
N.Plum again yielded some of the larger fish. In fact Bernie and Bob
split the pool with identical weight tog. In case anyone still cares
about blues, the Gut was full of gorilla sized ones on the flood as
we passed through.
November 2, 2008
On saturday some members of the Oakdale Sportsmen
came to Orient for some blackfishing. Anthony Polisi and his brother
in law Pete lead the way with about 10 keepers apiece. Kelly, ex
supermate from the Peconic Star was aboard and he had at least 8
fish. The largest fish of the day is pictured here. Sorry, but the
name escapes me as I left the info on the boat. Nice fish of around
7.5 lbs. Needless to say the guys who caught over the limits played
by the rules and no one kept more than their allowable catch.
Actually, I am finding that most anglers are ok with this rule and
knowing the slow growth and late maturity of blackfish perhaps this
is an ok rule. Fluke, on the other hand as well as porgies need some
serious re-evaluation
October 24, 2008
You know the
men who come to the dock and survey the catch? Well, today 14 of
these gentlemen fished with us for blackfish. They really are a nice
bunch of guys.
We had action at all the drops we made and during the hardest part
of the ebb we headed to the Gut to try for some bass. All the giant
blues you could want. We spent half an hour at it and returned to
the tog. Bob Klug caught at least 12 legal blacks keeping only his
4.He also won the pool with a tog of 7 pounds.. There were 3 other
fish just ounces short of being pool fish. The fabulous weather was
a real bonus. The Orient Star has a few weekdays available in the
next two weeks so if you have a group that wants to get in on the
great togging going on give us a call.
October 20, 2008
The big story this weekend was the wind. Lots
of wind. It was NE so there was a lee in the Gut and the fishing was
excellent for blues and a few bass. I included a few shots of the
Gut and the sound. It really wasn't rough unless you fished into or
tried to turn around in the rip at the end of the drift. Plenty of
fish on jigs or bucktails.
These are the few pictures I took from
thursday's trip with the Hamilton brothers. Did I mention we caught
and releaded about 150 blues??
On thursday Chuck and Bob Hamilton and some
buddies fished for blues and bass with us. The flood tide in the Gut
is very active. Our biggest bass was taken on the first drift but as
the strong tides began to roar the blues took over. Without porgies
to fish for at the slack we went to Pigeon Rip just to keep busy.
The place is loaded with blues, anchovies, squid, butterfish and
seals. We counted 6 seals up there. I forgot to mention that on
wednesday Hector hooked a fish which suddenly got very large.. A
strong steady pull made us think we had hooked a really nice bass.
After a 5 minute tug of war a blue came to the boat..all chewed with
puncture wounds. Seal no doubt
Dave Horowitz and his sidekick Hector plus 12 buddies fished with us
on wednesday. The Gut was alive with blues of all sizes plus a few
keeper bass. There are hundreds of undersized bass as well. At the
change we slipped over to the porgy spot to have our last shot at
the fabulous scup in the area. Big to very big porgies came over the
rail. Awesome fishing.
When the ebb started it was back to drifting with more blues and
bass. Great weather was a bonus
October 14, 2008
On monday the
crew from East End Asphalt came to Orient for more porgies and
bucktailing. We fished way to the east for many beautiful
scup.Guadalupe Hernandez had a nice blackfish in the mix. We drifted
for many big blues in the Race and everyone had plenty of fish to
bring home. Todd Brewer had the largest porgy of 2.4 pounds.
On Sunday, Nick Amoroso brought some good
friends and associates to Orient. We were right on time for the
local porgies and bailed many big scup. We traveled to the Race for
the ebb and had fish on all day. A few keeper bass and plenty of
blues kept everyone busy throughout the day.
On saturday,Robert Smith and 19 men from
all over the east coast came to Orient for our porgy fishing.
Fishers was again red hot and all had their limits of large to jumbo
scup. Oscar Aguirre's 2.75 porgy won the pool. The last picture is a
photo I took while getting ice in the am. There are millions of
bunker up in Greenport Harbor.
On friday John Marchese and Jim Haywerd
brought their friends out to Orient for a try at porgies and
bucktailing. The scup were large and hungry. Bucktailing in the Race
was very good for blues and some bass. The rods were bent all day.
October 7, 2008
On monday Gerry McGrath,aka Schoolman,
brought out some friends and graduates of his popular Fishing class.
Keep your eye out for Gerry's class. He can teach beginners and
experts alike a thing or two about fishing L.I.
We fished the Gut on the ebb for an hour or so with a few blues and
a number of short bass. We swithched to porgies for a few hours and
had a great time with these jumbo and tasty fish. Mate Tom did his
usual expert filleting. It's still surprises me that a lot of folks
have a misconception about our scup. These large fish can be
filleted, de-boned , skinned and eaten in a thousand ways. They are
not BONY FISH if cleaned properly. They are truly a delicious fish.
We headed to Pigeon for an hour of blue fishing. Awesome is the
word. Most of these fish were released.
Another great trip with Gerry
John Aresta brought his dad and son as well
as a few friends out on saturday. The Gut was fair at best as the
tides are weak right now. We targeted big porgies and had a great
time with these tasty scup. Good old Pigeon Rip on the flood in the
fall rarely dissapoints and the group did very well with blues from
3 to 10 pounds.
On Sunday The Holbrook FD lead by Pete and George bailed porgies for
a while and then we went to the race for the flood. Lots of blues
there and some bass as well.
Oct 1, 2008
On monday Lou Rasso and friends fished with
us for blues, bass and porgies. Good fishing in the Gut both tides as
the boys took 6 keeper bass, all the blues they could handle and a
couple of pails of big scup.
On tuesday Ed Marinich and a group of
teachers, ex teachers and friends, mostly from the Half Hollow Hills
School district fished on the Orient Star ll with us. The Gut was
not as active as the day before. We managed a few keeper bass and
some blues on the flood. We ran out to Pigeon Rip for some
unbeleiveable blue fishing and then hit the porgies where Lou
Dominick proved to be the porgy slayer of all time. Using his
venerable Stud fishing rod.he showed all how to bail the big scup.
Great day,good guys.
Today we fished with Dave Howrowitz, his
wife Anna, their kids Jacob and Dana and a few other friends and
their children. We cruised through the Gut and thought it was again
very inactive. Strange place. One day it's alive and the next it's
deserted. Everything depends on the flow of bait. At this time of
year the natural flow of bait is out with the ebb tide. Conversely,
in the spring the flood is often more productive. We headed straight
to Pigeon Rip for a shot at the thousands of blues that are
stationed there. Drop down, crank the jig 2-3 turns and you're
hooked up. Every rod, every drop.
After everyone had their fill of blues from 3 pounds to over 10, we
worked our way to the porgy spot. Lots of big scup were waiting.
Great day with tons of fish in a 4 hour trip!
September 23, 2008
On friday we fished with the Bob Boergesson
party. Bob won a 1/2 day tip at a Ducks Unlimited fund raiser. The
trip was donated by the Orient Star. The Gut was again loaded with
blues but 3 keeper bass were takem. It was especially nice to see 3
generations of George Berrys,Sr.Jr and 3rd fishing together. Bob
gave us a gift of a new throw ring that works like a frisbee. You
can toss it out about 100 ft. and the line will not get knotted. It
comes in a nylon case. Keep a lookout at your marine dealer for this
lifesaver
On friday afternoon, Jay Ratto brought his
whole landscaping company out for a twi-light fishing trip.
Blues-blues-blues. The boys caught nearly 70 blues in a 4 hour trip
and the best part was that these fish all went home to be eaten and
appreciated by the crew. Carlos won the pool with a 13 pound
chopper. Great job Jay and I know the men loved the trip.
On Saurday Bob Dickersons group battled the blues in hopes of some
bass in Plum Gut. There were many blues in the Gut as well as at
Pigeon Rip. We did see some bass but they were just undersized.Lots
of small bass around and that bodes well for the future. We hit the
porgies betwen tides for some very nice scup.
On saturday afternoon we fished with Sean Mullady and some friends
as a prelude to Sean's upcoming wedding next saturday. Plenty of
blues and at least 20 stripers...all 1 to 2 inches shy of legal.
Still, lots of fun. All the best Sean.
Pat Fausto , of Pat Tap Heating and Cooling
brought out his employees, friends and associates on Sunday. Plenty
of blues of all sizes on the ebb in Plum Gut. We switched to scup
for an hour and did just fine with large fish. We went back to the
blues near Gardiners and the boys battled big choppers for a few
hours.Lots of 10-12 pounders down there . Brian Doherty won the
pool with a 13 pound blue...Most of these fish were released. Best
to eat the smaller ones.
September 17, 2008
On Wednesday Simmons and friends fished the
Gut on the flood using bucktails. Action was non-stop with all 5
men hooking up each drift. We managed 6 keeper bass amongst the
hundreds of blues. More bass seem to be showing up each trip. The
morning sky was too pretty to pass up so I took a few shots of the
dawning of a great day.
September 15, 2008
On Sunday Ben DiVenti and his friends fished
with us on the Orient Star ll. Plum Gut is loaded with blues of all
sizes on both tides. Lots of small bass and a few keepers as well.
Porgy fishing remains solid with some fish in the 2 1/2 lb class
September 9, 2008
We opted to not fish this weekend. Actually, Saturday was
fishable but Sunday would have been tough. I organized a few guys to
try the Gut and some porgy spots today. The Gut on the ebb was
chock full of blues of mixed sizes. 3 to 12 pounds.
A few short bass were just under the limet.
Porgy fishing was outstanding with fish to 2.5 pounds. Plenty of
fish and action for a half day trip.
The pictures are of Capt. Tony Greco of the Freeport based
charterboat Dolphin, his longtime mate Bruce and Capt. Jimmy Barr
also of Freeport. Jim used to run the Captain ll and other boats in
that area.
August 31, 2008
The annual Dick Hurley and friends fishing
trip took place on Sunday. We hit Pigeon Rip for awesome bluefishing.
Can't do too many of them as they were pretty big and come from 120
feet down. So, after an hour or two and all were weary we targeted
big scup near Gull Island. Plenty of nice fish around. A few were in
the plus 3 pound class but there were many 2-3 pound
fish. Audrey Wigler bested the men at bluefishing with the most and
the largest. .
Great day
fishing with a really nice bunch of people
The Peconic Iron Works crew fished with us
on Saturday. We bailed the blues at Pigeon Rip in the AM in the
rain.Joe Parascandola won the pool with an 11 lb. blue.
We fished Gardiners for non stop porgy action. Mixed sized fish
there with scup only inches long to 2.5 lb.beauties. Rain caused me
to not shoot too many pictures but tried to show a little of the
mountains of fish stacked up at Pigeon. Picture does not do the
actual mass of fish justice.
On friday we had the great pleasure of
taking out a group of challenged youngsters as well as a girl scout
group on a Teach a kid to Fish trip. The trip was donated by The New
York Sportfishing Federation and was organized by Dennis Cataldo.
The Fisherman magazine also made a generous contribution to help
cover the expenses of the trip. We targeted porgies exclusively as
we felt the youngsters would have the greatest chance of success
with them . We fished the shallows near Gardiners Island and the
fishing was terrific. Lots of happy noise and happy faces. Plenty of
nice sized scup to bring home for supper. Thanks again Dennis for
all your work with the Federation
August 27,
2008
Harry and Debi Triola along
with some friends and their daughter Sarah fished with us on tuesday.
We bucktailed lots of blues on the ebb in Plum Gut. Porgy fishing
was very good near Gull Island with fish to 2 plus pounds.Paul
Wolfrom and his son Paul, plus 3 grandsons had a great time with the
blues and porgies on the trip as well.
August 25, 2008
All the trips from friday through Sunday were great.Plenty of
porgies and lots of blues. Sameer Regee and Ed Pisani had the boat
on friday. Porgies near Gull Island and blues on the flood in the
Gut.
Vema Construction fished for porgies first
and then jigged blues to 12 pounds near Gardiners Island on
Saturday. Really good fishing all day.
Greg Maloney and a few buddies brought
their sons out to Orient for some porgies and blues. Great fishing
with good sized scup and lots of blues which the boys helped their
dads crank in.
We had two twi-lite sails this weekend with
Steve Molinaro and his softball buddies loading up on blues at
Pigeon Rip. The small group had a 3 hour trip from door to door and
managed over 50 choppers . All but a few were released. How
fortunate we are to have a place like Pigeon or the Gut so close to
the dock.
On Sunday we hosted a bachelor party for T.J. Buckley. T.J. is a
mate out in Orient as are his brothers Chris, presently working on
the Prime Time and Dan who works on the Brooklyn Girl. All 3 of the
brothers began their careers out east while learning at their Grandfathers side. Capt. Roddy DeLisle of the Prowler got the boys
started when they were very young..All 3 are certified teachers and
T.J., the youngest, will be getting married in Oct. Best of luck T.J!
August 19, 2008
Happened to stop by Brewer's shipyard in
Greenport. Couldn't help notice this over 2 million dollar Hinckley
with its bottom torn out on a rock near Sag Harbor. Best to slow
down and read your charts carefully in that area.
Lynn and Jason Roche who own JR Irrigation out in Riverhead took
their crew out for a day of fishing on monday. The Gut was
surprisingly quiet so we shot out to Pigeon Rip and the blues were
stacked up. There were 5-6 fish on all the time. Only one keeper
bass was taken out there. Could be more but the blues were so thick
it would be tough for a bass to get himself caught. Plenty of nice
porgies further east. It's all good.
Peter Psyllos chartered the boat on Sunday with the expressed intent
of seeing cousins John , Vincent and Harrison catch some fish. Well,
the boys caught many blues out at Pigeon and then had some great
porgy fishing a bit further east. Great action all day!
It's been blues and porgies and blues and
porgies for the past few weeks. On Friday, George and Bud LaMay
brought out the boys from LaMay's Tree service. We jigged blues on
both tides in Plum Gut taking a pause between tides to run east for
some very good porgy fishing. Jose Hernandez in striped shirt, had
the pool fish until Luis Estrada, gray shirt, edged him out late in
the day. Good fishing with great action all day.
August 10, 2008
The Homan family had their annual reunion and
part of their weekend festivities always includes a fishing trip on
the Orient Star ll.This year there were 10 of their grand children
aboard to help their dads bring in many big bluefish .They also
caught some jumbo porgies. Terrific family. Terrific fun.
On Saturday, Vernon Jackson plus family and
friends joined us for a great day of fishing out east. We started
out drifting for blues in the Gut and there were fish everywhere.
There were a few bass in the catch as well. We switched to scup and
headed to Fishers Island for very good porgy fishing with some fish
nearing 2.5 pounds.
Rich Clark and his buddies from Staten Island
called for a fluke trip. I had my reservations about fluking because
the porgies have been terrorizing us and the fluke were very
scattered. The day started out very slowly as the drift was
negligable and the skates were hungry. Resisting the temptation to
switch to porgies or go bluefishing the boys persisted. As soon as
the flood began to move Frank Vivenzo landed the first of his 3
keepers as well as a nice seabass. We landed 12 very nice fluke to
4.5 pounds as well as some seabass, porgies and a few blues as well.
2008 Reports
see Past reports
August 4, 2008
We got way behind on our reports as we were
fishing almost every day and no computer
out east. Wednesday Gerry McGrath brought his SCOPES class out to us
for a taste of Plum Gut. He does a fine job organizing the class and
we always enjoy fishing with him. Spent both tides in the Gut and
there were blues on at all times.Paola Guadalupe had the largest
bass and Vic had the largest rock
7/29/2008
Jimmy Jacobson and his friends came to Orient
to try their hand at Gardiners Island fluke. The first drift was
the hottest with 6 nice fluke taken in fifteen minutes. A repeat of
the drift was less fruitful and so on and so on until the tide quit
as did the breeze. We managed a few more as the flood built up.
There were plenty of porgies around to steal bait or get caught.
An afternoon father-son trip for Steve Tkacz
and a few friends resulted in a mess of blues, a few bass and a
bunch of nice porgies. The Gut was very active on both tides which
is always nice. The ebb has been a bit challenging lately but a new
body of fish seems to have settled into the area
Damian lead a group of Fire Fighters from
Rocky Point-Shoreham on a trip with us this Sunday. The threatening
weather and the abundance of youngsters directed me to stay fairly
local. We targeted porgies in a few places and while many were
visible to me they didn't eat as well as I had hoped. The fluke,
which were abundant a week ago, seemed either absent or off their
feed. Still, the gang fished, caught some porgies, seabass and fluke
right up until the 2pm squall hit us. The 40 knot wind, heavy rain
and many lightning bolts made the ride home very interesting.
Pictured are 3 of the lovely ladies who fished today, Dave's pool
winng fluke with a recent bluefish bite taken out of it, the radar
showing us about to be blasted by the squall, mates Mike and Kyle
taking a drenching at the dock and 2 wet butts of the fearless
firefighters. You know what? Another good time had by friends who
get together to fish. It's all good.
7/22/2008
This weekend we fished with Freddie Schraft
and his friends for both days. The boys totaled over 30 keeper fluke
and 3 giant seabass. Plenty of porgies around for those who made the
switch. On Sat. Rick Colabelli had the largest fluke of 5.5 pounds
and Sundary Fred'd 4.5 was the winner. Dennis Walsh, George Callaway
and Pat Connor, pictured here, each had seabass close to 5 pounds. All
fishing was at Gardiners. On another note, I noticed very few boats
down there. Between the fuel prices and the ridiculous regulations
people don't seem to be making the effort to go. Those 2 factors
should be all the regulating factors that are needed to reduce the
'harvesting" of these fish...but somehow ,someone is still going to
say that we are catching too many and should be shut down. If we
were fishing by the standards of 3 years ago we would have had 100
fish to bring home...Pleenty of fish around.
7/17/2008
Today we had the pleasure of taking a group of
campers from Quinipet Camp, Shelter Island, fishing. Due to time
constraints we stayed in East Marion for the better part of the
trip. The kids had some bay blues, a few big choppers..in fact one
cut the biggest fluke we had all day in half. The kids had some
porgies, many small fluke and lots of fun.I think every kid caught
something. Most of them had never gone fishing before. Mike and I
always enjoy fishing with youngsters and try hard to insure their
trip is a positive experience. By the way, almost all the fish were
released
7/08/2008
The Volinski family went fishing with us
recently as part of their annual family reunion festivities. We
fished the Gut and had 2-3 fish on at all times. Big 10 lb blues and
some very nice bass were in the mix. Pictured are twin sisters Amy
and Sarah with the bass they teamed up to land. Great time, great
family.
7/6/2008
We had the great pleasure of fishing with
Capt. Bob Busby on Sunday as he hosted his son Ryan's fishing
bachelor party on the Orient Star. Bob runs the Greenport based
Eaton Lobster and is a fine fluke fisherman. He specializes in early
season fluke in the bay. The Eaton Lobster is a 6 pack charter boat
so we put the larger group on the Orient Star.
We started out with many jumbo porgies during the slow part of the
tide. These fish are mostly 2 to 2.5 pounds with an occasional 3
plus thrown in.
The boys drifted bucktsails in the Gut for awhile and landed some
big blues to 10 pounds and one keeper in short order. Opting for
fluke we went east to Gardiners. Bob had 3 keepers for bragging
rights. Pictured are the groom to be ,Ryan Busby and the porgy is
being held by Robert Vames. Note the Game Over T shirt!!
Myra and I had the pleasure of taking our son
,Capt.Mike and daughter, Karyn Nowak, plus our 5 grandchildren
fishing on Friday..Jackson caught his first porgy but the catch of
the day was the 8 pound weakfish Alexys landed.. All the kids caught
and released lots of porgies. We kept a few for dinner. The
sandshark was most interesting to the kids.
7/1/2008
Jerry McGrath a.k.a. Schoolman, who posts his
reports here on a reglar basis, brought his Scopes class out with us
on Monday. His popular course is called Fishing Long Island ..hope I
am correct on this... and is taken by many teachers from Long Island
school districts. It's a 3 or 4 day course with field trips to
marine related places. The last day is dedicated to fishing with us
on the Orient star ll. People love the course. We started the day
with a good blast of porgies aand went fluking when the tide was
right. Charles Smith,in yellow T shirt, had the pool winner. Myra
Russo had the largest fish..as usual.. with a 5 1/2 pounder. I
highly recommend taking the course if you are a teacher. Jerry also
gives seminars and library lectures all over L.I. Keep your eye out
for any of his productions.
Frank DeBello won the auction at the N.Y
Sportfishing Federation show last year. We donate a trip to the
group in appreciation for a fine job they do on behalf of all N.Y.
fishermen. Frank brought a few grandsons and some good friends
aboard. The 3 boys accounted for most of the scup and some of the
larger fluke on the boat. Way to go John. Eric and Anthony
6/25/2008
We had another very good day at Gardiners with
the John Tibbetts group. Last week the silver balls were very
productive but today the plain hook, no gimmicks, spearing and fluke
belly worked best. Mate Tom Sadowski nailed 4 while dead sticking
and working the deck. Ryan Dunn had a 6 1/2 pounder ti
to win the big fish pool. Tom Mulieri- was a close second.
The boys had 18 keeper fluke. Note the scrape wounds on the fluke in
the group photo. Fish was most likely in the way of a trawl.
6/24/2008
On Friday a group from the E.P.A. led by Felix
LoCicero had a great time with a mixed bag of fishing. Starting in
the Gut they took 2 bass and about 8 blues. Then we went to the
Ruins area and took some very nice fluke. I have ben tagging fluke
for years with American Littoral Society tags. I tagged 15 fluke
that measured from 18.5 inches to 20 1/4 inches. They managed to
keep 6 plus a 5 pound sea bass caught by Rich Caspe. We hit a porgy
spot for around 30 keeper sized scup (11 in.) There are photos
showing the tagged fluke. I recommend taking up tagging. As long as
you are releasing a lot of these fish you might as well be having
some fun doing it. I have had many returns over the years and the
travels of fluke can be amazing. Capt. Bill
Terry McTeague, his brothers, sons and friends
fished for fluke with us on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday,Joe
Amedure had the largest with a 6 3/4b. fluke. It was a slow drift
and the fish are scattered so patience and perserverance is
key.Sunday's fluking was much better. See a separate report
The McTeagues returned to Gardiners Island for
part two of their fluking weekend. Conditions were much better than
Saturday with a nice south wind and a flooding tide. Covering a much
greater area the boys ut together a catch of 21 keepers. Terry
snagged a live squid(there are lots of them in the area and that may
hold the fluke for some time) and put it down. He landed an 8
pounder with it. Silver balls worked well for some of the boys but
plain rigs did well too.
6/15/2008
On Friday afternoon we fished the Gut for some
steady blue -bass action. Pete Cheney aka Wilford Brimley, took 3
keepers and while Missy Saladino only caught blues she's better
looking than the guy that caught the bass
On Saturday the annual Jackie Bauer pre
fathers day fluke trip took place. Some beautiful fish were taken.
Ed Borst.pictured with his two sons, Bob and Tom took first place in
the pool with a 6.5 lb. fish. Bob Drake had his limit plus a nice
seabass. Myra and Capt. Mike each had a few nice fluke as well
6/12/2008
We fished at Gardiners today
with the J. Pauls Pub from Oceanside. There are some very nice fluke
down there. With a good tide and favorable breeze you can cover a
lot of territory to locate them. Trey Smith won the pool(left) with
a 6.5 pound fluke while Mario Toppi finished a close second with a
6.2 pound flattie.
6/11/2008
Brothers Chuck and Bob
Hamilton came bass fishing with us on Friday,. Bob's 20 pounder was
the largest of the bunch. Plenty of blues to have fun with.
Jimmy Jacobson and friends
fished with us in Plum Gut this Saturday. Good fishing with 11 bass
to 25 pounds as well as lots of blues.
On Sunday the Port Washington
Fire Dept. Flower Hill group fished with us in the Gardiners Bay
area. We had a good early shot and another blast near the end of the
flood. About a dozen fluke above 20.5 in. were taken. Lots of 18 to
20 inch fish around.
On Monday we shuttled students from the Cutchogue East school over
to Robins Island from New Suffolk for their annual field trip.
Absolutely a fantastic Island to visit if you ever get the
opportunity. Peggy Dickerson, the teacher in charge does a terrific
job,. Farmer John, longtime mate and friend and I go fishing while
the students are ashore. This year I got an 11 lb weakfish... Capt
Bill Russo
6/1/2008
The Lady Reelers Fishing Club joined us today for their annual fluke
trip. They boated about a dozen nice keepers, a bunch of blues and a
few large seabass. One porgy was lucky and was returned to the sea.
Largest fluke was taken by Susie Pearsall at 5 3/4 lbs. Donna Pratt
took second with a 4 1/2 lb.fish. Donna had 3 keepers on the day.
Great day Ladies.
5/31/2008
The 60th reunion of the Wayward Boys took place this Friday. Part of
the group always comes fishing with us while the others play golf.
Otto Lohse runs the trip. The Gut looked a little quiet in the am so
we went directly to the Race. There was a steady pick of fish for
awhile. More blues showing up each day. Jerry Coughlin had the
largest (again). The photos show part of our catch. We hit the Gut
on the way home and the blues were thick.

5/26/2008
Fished up in East Marion today and the bite was very good for
awhile. Boat traffic always a problem on a big weekend. Eric
Micalizzi had a 7 1/2ounder and Capt. Mike had one of 6/12. Jim
Miller, in red had a pair of very nice fluke.
We had a trip this afternoon with the Montesori school. The
kids were great and caught some nice fluke. After the trip we
dropped the kids off for a few days
at a Retreat. Great experience for these youngsters.
It was breezy, hence the hat on backwards. Jessica had a 7 pound
beauty, our largest of the day.
5/20/2008
Dr. Monte Nussbaum and his friends and family fished with us today.
The morning saw great action with fish on most of the time. The
middle of the day was a bit slow but the first of the ebb saw the
fish turn on again. Gary Greco lead the way with 4 keepers. The
photos show brothers Tony (in orange) and Gary Greco
Week of 5/12/2008
On Friday we fished with Terry McTeague and his friends. We targeted
fluke all day and caught many, keeping about 10. Some folks think
that 10 fluke on a given trip isn't that great but if they are all 3
to 5 pounds, it's a very good day. Look at the smiling faces on
these guys
The boys from Stallion Inc. opted for striped bass on Sunday and did
a fine job indeed. The group had 12 keepers up to 25 pounds(4 were
in the twenties) and a bunch of blues. Achilles had the biggest.
